Tennessee isn’t the first state that springs to mind when people think about places where citizens are embracing going green.  Tennessee may not be the top state in environmental rankings, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t eco-conscious citizens in the Volunteer State.  There are plenty of green homes in Tennessee and citizens that are doing their best to live environmentally friendly lifestyles.  If you’re interested in learning more about the environment, these websites are excellent sources of information for Tennessee residents that want to do their part in making the world a cleaner and greener place to live.


Greener Nashville is the perfect website for middle Tennessee residents that want start to learn the basics of living greener lives.  Greener Nashville was started in 2007 by a variety of local businesses to help residents live greener and healthier lives.  The site has links to local environmental bloggers, green news, information about local environmentally friendly businesses, and information on how to start being more active in green lifestyles. 


Do you wish that you had more eco-friendly options for transportation?  Greenways for Nashville is a non-profit organization that was created to help people have greener transportation options.  Greenways are linear parks and trails that typically connect neighborhoods to schools, offices, recreational areas, and other points of interest.  These greenways are usually located along landscape features like streams, rivers, and other scenic areas.  The organization works hard to create, develop, protection, preserve, and promote greenway systems in Nashville.


The Tennessee Environmental Council is a non-profit organization that works educate others on environmental issues, and advocate for the conservation and improvement of the state’s environment, communities, and public health.  The website has information on a variety of environmentally based state initiatives and projects, and has information for people that are interested in volunteering for eco-friendly causes.


Libscomb University has been around since 1891, and the century old school is doing its best to not only go green, but to educate the citizens of Tennessee about environmental issues.  Their website is full of information on environmental issues that are unique to the Tennessee area, and information on the institute’s latest green projects.
